How can I test my typing speed in WPM?

WPM (words per minute) is the standard speed metric. Take a timed test on Typetap.io and read your WPM when the clock stops.

What WPM means

Most online tests define one “word” as five characters (including spaces). That keeps scores comparable across sites.

Raw WPM counts everything you typed; net or displayed WPM usually factors in mistakes. Typetap shows both speed and accuracy so you can judge quality, not only pace.

Steps on Typetap.io

Go to the typing test, choose a time mode (60 seconds is a common baseline), and type the on-screen text until the timer ends.

Your result includes WPM and accuracy. Repeat two or three times and average the scores for a more stable reading.

Tips for a fair score

Use a full keyboard, sit with good posture, and avoid pausing mid-test. If you often correct with Backspace, accuracy will tell you whether speed is “clean.”

Curious about the metric itself? Read Typetap’s What is WPM page, then retest.
